The World Heritage Forum Korea 2012, a national-level venue where experts, government officials and site mangers of World Heritage convene to exchange their knowledge and experience on World Heritage, is going to be held in Hwasun, Jeollanam-do Province from Nov. 22 to 23. The forum, which the Cultural Heritage Administration co-host in cooperation with Jeollanam-do Province and Hwasun County and ICOMOS-Korea, will discuss the use of Korea’s World Heritage sites and their application to each local site, expecting to find a new way of policies. During the first day sessions, experts and local government officials respectively present case studies of overseas and local usage of World Heritage sites, which may provide a comparative view on international trend and local experience of heritage usage. Group discussion continues on the next day, where ICOMOS experts, CHA and local officials share opinions on pertinent policies regarding the usage of World Heritage sites. Since its launch in 2009, the World Heritage Forum Korea has been a place where views on sustainable conservation, management and usage of World Heritage sites are discussed, with an aim to drawing up policies as well as enhancing mutual cooperation between the central and local governments on those internationally recognized heritage sites.
