Nine Global Cultural Heritage Ambassadors appointed – 2nd Year -

 - Completion Ceremony held at Korea House on August 28 -

The completion ceremony for the 2nd year of Global Cultural Heritage Ambassadors, a collaboration between the Cultural Heritage Administration (Administrator Choi Eungchon, hereinafter CHA) and the Voluntary Agency Network Korea (Head Park Kitae, hereinafter VANK), was held on August 28 at Korea House. 24 Global Cultural Heritage Ambassadors conducted activities for about two months, starting with the kick-off ceremony on June 26, and the final appointment was made for nine of them who have diligently performed their activities.

The ambassadors created digital materials comparing the prominent heritage of their countries and Korea and promoted them on social media. They shared their activities and received their appointment certificates at the completion ceremony.

The young students briefly shared their experiences and expressed their love for Korean cultural heritage. One ambassador from Mexico attracted considerable attention by comparing kimchi and Mexican tacos. The ambassadors expressed their appreciation for the meaningful program, for they could learn that countries can communicate through cultural heritage, while they had initially become interested in Korea through K-pop and K-dramas.

Jo Dongjoo, head of the International Cooperation Division of CHA, thanked the ambassadors and expressed his will to “continue to strive to create an environment that encourages foreign youth to gain interest in Korean national heritage.” Park Kitae also asked the students to continue an active interest in Korean national heritage and the ethos as ‘Global Cultural Heritage Ambassadors.’

CHA has been operating the ‘Digital and Global Cultural Heritage Ambassadors’ program since 2021 in response to the distortion of history in neighboring countries. ‘Cultural Heritage Ambassador Day,’ including an award ceremony, will celebrate outstanding ambassadors’ hard work and to strengthen the network at the end of the year. CHA will continuously endeavor to promote mutual understanding and cooperation through national heritage by recruiting ambassadors of various nationalities.
