The Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam signed an Arrangement on Exchange and Cooperation in the Field of Cultural Heritage at the National Palace Museum of Korea on May 9th. The Arrangement aims at a strengthened cooperation in cultural heritage safeguarding systems and policies, while enhancing mutual understanding and amicable relations between the two countries.

 

The signing is the result of Administrator YOU Hong June’s visit to Vietnam this March when he had a comprehensive discussion with Vietnamese officials regarding cooperation and exchange measures. This time, a Vietnamese delegation paid a visit to Korea to sign the Arrangement and participate in the event of Jongmyo Jerye Royal Ancestral Rite, a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Among the Delegation were Mr. Tran Chien Thang, Vice Minister of the Culture and Information (MoCI); Ms. Le Thi Minh Ly, Deputy Director General of the Department of Cultural Heritage, MoCI; and other government officials working in the field of cultural heritage.

 

Under the Arrangement, the two countries will share their experiences and achievements concerning the establishment and implementation of the systems and policies on the preservation of cultural heritage, and contribute to the establishment of a sustainable safeguarding system by strengthening the preservation of cultural heritage as the world heritage of mankind through various measures such as the implementation of joint studies. Also, diverse exchange programs will be implemented: transmission and promotion of the intangible cultural heritage, preservation and management of historic architectures, joint excavation of the historic capital cities, management of the world heritage, and exchanges between affiliated museums.
