Photo Exhibition “Time Stops in Jongmyo”

The Cultural Heritage Administration holds a photo exhibition “Time Stops in Jongmyo” at the UNESCO World Heritage of Jongmyo from June 14th to 30th. The exhibition has the title because the royal shrine remains the same as it was six hundred years ago.

The exhibition comprises three sections:
  • “Time Stops in Jongmyo” – reminds the viewers of the forgotten memories;
  • “Jongmyo Meets the Heavens” – exhibits majestic architectural beauty and the sacred space of rituals; and
  • “Jongmyo and People” – shows people who try to learn ancestors’ spirit and traditional Korean culture.

This exhibition is particularly meaningful because there are 75 photos that meet the public for the first time. Among them are the picture of the street in front of Jongmyo in 1906 and that of Oedaemun in 1910 when the front gate of Jongmyo still retained its original form.

Individual photo collectors, the press and general viewers sent photos under their ownership for the exhibition.

The exhibition is expected to serve as a good opportunity for people, through the past and present appearances of Jongmyo, to appreciate the beauty of Korean cultural heritage and take pride in it.

People can call the Jongmyo Office at 02 765 0195 for more information.
