Gwangju, the metropolitan city located in southwest Korea, was chosen as the hosting city of the 11th International Advisory Committee for the UNESCO’s Memory of the World. The IAC is the international body of experts that deliberates nominations each country submitted for every biennial cycle. The hosting of IAC by Korea was suggested last year during the 10th Committee in Manchester, and following the decision, the Cultural Heritage Administration got down to the selection process taking the advice of experts and finally chose Gwangju after deliberation by the Cultural Heritage Committee. The meeting is slated on May 23 to 25, 2013, and about 40 members and observers will gather. Korea has submitted two nominations for the 2012-13 cycle, which are “Nanjung Ilgi: War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin” and “The Archives of Samaul Undong (New Community Movement).”
