 Conducting On-site Technical Training Program customized for cultural heritage in Indonesia


 - Holding the OTTP as the advanced training course

on conservation of metal cultural heritage for 24 conservators practically working in the field of on-site conservation

(April 24~May 2, 2024, Borobudur, Indonesia) -



The Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center (CHCSC, Director Park Jongseo) in the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH) under the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold the '2024 On-site Technical Training Program' for conservators practically working in the field of conservation of cultural heritage in Indonesia from April 24 to May 2 in the Borobudur Conservation Office, Borobudur, Central Java, Indonesia.

The OTTP (On-site Technical Training Program) is part of an international exchange project targeting countries in the Asian region with the venerable base in terms of conservation and management of cultural heritage as a customized training program. It aims at their own capacity building by providing a customized training on conservation and management for cultural heritage according to on-site situations of each country

It has begun in 2013 in connection with ODA project by the Cultural Heritage Administration which has provided conservation equipment and other supplies to countries in the Asian region, and it conducted a total of 13 training sessions for 7 countries: Mongolia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia.

Following the first OTTP held in National Museum of Indonesia, Jakarta last July, this is the second OTTP which is planned to conduct the advanced course on metal conservation treatment of cultural heritage for 24 conservators practically working under Museum and Cultural Heritage with 18 organizations (consisting of 17 museums and 1gallery) in Indonesia.


The detail of this advanced course includes ▲ utilization and principles of equipment for conservation of metal cultural heritage, ▲ case studies and hands-on practice of conservation treatment of outdoor metal objects, ▲ theoretical approach and hands-on practice of conservation treatment of excavated metal cultural heritage, ▲ handling and urgent treatment of excavated metal cultural heritage, ▲ case studies of metal and potteries cultural heritage damaged by fire. Individual training samples are prepared by each participant during the training, which will enable participants to carry out the actual conservation treatment and restoration process.


The Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center in the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage under the Cultural Heritage Administration will disseminate excellent conservation technology of Korea to international communities through the competent OTTP and maintain the active administration for making efforts to train conservation experts in the Asian region.
