The Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea and the Cambodian government have agreed to cooperate with each other to support conservation efforts for Cambodian cultural heritage sites including Angkor. On August 8, CHA delegates led by Park Yung-keun, Director-General of Heritage Promotion Bureau, met with Sok An, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Bun Narith, the head of Apsara Authority in charge of managing Angkor. During the meeting, the two parties agreed on basic principles for cultural heritage exchange between the two countries and decided to sign an MOU as a framework for cooperation. Two days later, Apsara Authority explained the Korean delegates the status of management and ongoing projects at Angkor and asked aid from the Korean government for more systemic and in-depth research on the world heritage site. The agreement is a follow-up from the dialogue between the two countries led by the National Assembly member Kim Hyong-O and the minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Chung Byoung-gug. CHA will set up a mid- and long-term plan to research on and select properties to support in cooperation with the Cambodian government.
