The "forbidden stream," or geumcheon, in the entrance area of Changdeok Palace will be restored to have clean water flow there for the first time in many decades. The project is scheduled to be completed in October this year. During the Joseon Dynasty, when kings crossed the stream over a stone bridge, it was regarded as a renewed pledge for clean governance. The Japanese cut off the stream during the colonial period.
