1. How much of it is underwater? Is it ever fully visible? When is the best time to see it?

Petroglyphs of Bangudae have been sunken in the water due to the construction of Sayeon dam to supply industrial water in Ulsan since December of 1965. It is sunken for 9-10 months during a year while it is displayed for 2-3 months among 4 months from October to February, the dry season of the year.

2. How do I get there from Daejeon?

The Ulsan City runs a tour bus to the Bangudae site on 10a.m. every Sunday, but the tour includes other sites such as musesum in Ulsan as well. Arriving near the Bangudae site, you will be asked to walk for 20 minutes to reach the rock carving (the bus is too big to approach the site). But, the city official said that the walk path is quite good and one is likely to enjoy the walking. For those with difficulty in walking a long distance, there are telescopes near the bus stop. To take this tour bus, you have to make a reservation at 052 271 6633, but I am afraid that only Korean explanation is provided. You can take this tour bus at "Tae-hwa gang-byeon dun-chi" (the waterfront of the Taehwa-gang River) which can be reached by a 10-15 miniute taxi ride from the Ulsan Express Bus Terminal.

Or, I recommend you to visit http://www.ulju.ulsan.kr/english/ because there are good information on the Bangudae site, including how to get to the site. On the bottom left, you can find the "Bangudae" menu with the fish drawing.
