The Cultural Heritage Administration (Chairman Kim Hyun-mo), together with the Digital Heritage Lab of the Graduate School of Culture and Technology at KAIST, will hold a webinar on 'Asian Culture after the Corona 19 Pandemic' in the form of a webinar with prominent digital heritage experts from home and abroad on December 2nd. An international symposium will be held on the theme of 'Digital Transformation of Heritage'.

* Digital Heritage: Digital heritage is the digitalization of existing analog materials and refers to computer-based materials that are worthy of continuous preservation.

The International Symposium on Digital Heritage, which marks its third anniversary this year, is a series of annual conferences on digital heritage established by the Cultural Heritage Administration in 2019, titled “Digital Transformation of Cultural Heritage in Asia Post-Corona Pandemic: Digitization as Innovation and Communication towards Sustainable Preservation of Cultural Heritage.” proceeds. This symposium will share innovative countermeasures for the conservation, management and enjoyment of cultural heritage in Asia, which is changing due to the acceleration of digital transformation triggered by COVID-19 and the resulting socio-cultural changes, and through this, another development potential of digital heritage. It is expected that it will be a time to discuss possibilities.

This international symposium will be held in the form of a non-face-to-face online meeting, and will be broadcast in real-time in both Korean and English at the same time through the YouTube channel.

It includes digital transformation initiatives related to the field of cultural heritage during and after the pandemic, and explores best practices for the digitization of cultural heritage using innovative digital technologies.

In addition, while conducting research on the digitization and dissemination of cultural heritage using the technology in Korea and other Asian countries, it is possible to check how to respond, cooperate, and engage the public in order to preserve heritage.

The Graduate School of Culture and Technology of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the Korean Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Relics, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the Nongshim Data System (NDS) will participate together.

The symposium was held by Won Kwang-yeon, the former chairman of the National Science and Technology Committee and emeritus professor at KAIST Graduate School of Culture and Technology, Chairman Kwangyun WOHN , 'From Cave Mural to Cave Reality', ICOMOS Headquarters Director, CIPA Vice-Chairman, and Andreas GEORGOPOULOS, a professor at the Athens Institute of Technology in Greece and director of the Photogrammetry Research Institute. Orgopolos will start with two keynote presentations, 'Digital Transformation of Cultural Heritage Documentation to Overcome Pandemic Restrictions'.

Session 2 is chaired by Eugene CH’NG(Professor, Cultural Computing, School of International Communications, University of Nottingham Ningbo China) under the theme of Digitization and Digital Transformation for Strategic Dissemination of Cultural Heritage in the (Post)-COVID-19 Era. ▲ Digital Technology in Heritage Management Planning and Interpretation of Jaipur World Heritage City (Shikha JAIN , Director, DRONAH and Chairperson, DRONAH Foundation), Computational Museology: Experimental Interfaces to Cultural (Big) Data (Sarah KENDERDINE, Director&lead curator, EPFL Pavilions (formerly ArtLab), EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland), ▲ Memory in a Time of Change: Digital Tools to Support Community Values and Resilience (Kevin Fan HSU , Stanford University researcher, USA), and the use of digitization of cultural heritage.

The last session 3, Towards Korea’s Efforts and Challenges in the (Post)-COVID-19 Era - The Next Wave of Digital Transformation in the Cultural Heritage Sector, is chaired by Jaehong Ahn (Visiting Professor, Graduate School of Culture Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)) ▲ The Hanyang Time Machine: Humanities Tasks and Semantic Data Archive (Hyeon KIM, Professor of Humanities and Information Sciences, Department of Culture and Arts, Central Research Institute of Korean Studies), ▲ The Hanyang Time Machine: Digital Representation of a 6oo-year old Hanyang (Woosung LEE , Director of PCN Research Institute), ▲ Digital Transformation: The Establishment of the GIS of Ancient City Ruins (Dong-Seok Kang, curator researcher at the National Institute of Cultural Heritage), ▲ Korea’s Public Diplomacy using Digital Technologies of Cultural Heritage (Siro Kim, Vice President of Wipro) Announce on use.

In this task, known as the 'Cultural Heritage Digital New Deal' policy, the Cultural Heritage Administration will build a data dam containing a wide range of digital resources related to the repair and excavation of cultural heritage by 2030, and visualize the cultural heritage in a virtual space to preserve and manage new cultural assets. The system is the main goal. It is hoped that this symposium will contribute to exploring the direction of conservation and management of innovative heritage and paving the way for raising awareness of cultural heritage.
