Registration Period: June 22 – July 6 / Program Period: Tuesdays from July 11 to August 8 at the Mokpo Maritime Museum

The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (NRIMCH; Director: Kim Seong-bae), an affiliate of the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, is opening application to the 32nd Maritime Culture School (July 11–August 8) operated by the Mokpo Maritime Museum. Applications will be received from June 22 (Thu.) through July 6 (Thu.).

The Maritime Culture School is a humanities course for adults on maritime culture that has been offered by the NRIMCH since 1995. This year’s course will be a continuation of last year’s theme, “the sea and the environment,” and will explore a blueprint for the future of the sea from various perspectives including the humanities, maritime science, and the environment.

The course will be held every Tuesday from July 11 to August 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mokpo Maritime Museum. A total of five lectures will be presented: Discovering Silhak(Practical Learning) in the Sea (July 11; Hwang Sun-do, Former president of the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (MABIK)), A Philosopher’s View on AI (July 18; Kim Jae-yin, Research professor at the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies at Kyung Hee University), Resources Needed for Carbon Neutrality in the Deep Sea (July 25; Chi Sang-bum, Principal research scientist at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST)), The Sea: A Treasure Trove of New Medicine (August 1; Shin Hee-jae, Principal research scientist at KIOST), and Blue Carbon and Carbon Neutrality (August 8; Noh Jun-sung, professor at the Department of Environment and Energy at Sejong University). The lectures will also be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the NRIMCH.
The 32nd Maritime Culture School is free and open to all adults interested in maritime culture. Registration can be made by phone (061-270-2047) starting June 22 (100 persons; first-come, first serve basis). The NRIMCH will continue to strive to provide the public with the pleasure of appreciating maritime cultural heritage.
