Korea National University of Cultural Heritage Holds Traditional Painting Exhibition in UAE

- Invitational Exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates / Sep. 21. - Oct. 28. Sorbonne University, Abu Dhabi -

From September 21st to October 28th, the Cultural Heritage Administration's Korea National University of Cultural Heritage (Acting President Jung Yong-jae) will hold an exhibition, ‘Korean Traditional Paintings by Promising Painters’ under the theme of traditional paintings made with Korean traditional techniques at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

 

* Abu Dhabi Sorbonne University: Supporting international community activities related to popular art at the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and Warehouse 421 Art Gallery on campus

 

This exhibition, held at the invitation of the Korean Cultural Center in the UAE to promote cultural exchange between Korea and the United Arab Emirates, will feature a total of 26 works, including 4 group works and 22 individual works. A total of 30 people, including Professor Kwon, Ji Eun, took part.

 

Through this exhibition, the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage expects to contribute to the globalization of the Korean Wave by promoting the research and inheritance of cultural heritage and the development of tradition, and by introducing Korea's traditional culture to the world.

1. Kwon Jy Eun, the Fadeless Peony- King of Flowers, 76Ø, mineral pigments on paper, silver and blue foil, 2022

2. Group work of 3rd year students, Chaekado, ea. 150x64cm, mineral pigments on silk, 2022

3. Lee Soo-young, Tetris- the extinction of karma, another birth, 60x80cm, mineral pigments on silk, 2022

4. Jo Jae-keon, Kyujanggakdo, 68x88cm, mineral pigments on paper, 2022

5. *Kim Min-ah', Gaeungdo, 120x60cm, mineral pigments on silk, 2022

 

*Professor Kwon, Jy Eun’s ‘the Fadeless Peony- King of Flowers’ was created with metallic pigments, silver foil, and blue foil, using the Buddhist painting technique among Korean traditional paintings.

 

*Group work of 3rd year students (A-Jin Kim, Ha-Jun Kim, Jeong-Eun Roh, Hye-Seung Park, Kyu-Hee Lee, Su-I Lee, Seung-Hee Choo, Ji-Hyeon Choi): ‘Chaekado’ is like a wish list. The ancient Koreans captured the desire for wealth and knowledge in the paintings.

 

*Lee Soo-young's 'Tetris- the extinction of karma, another birth ' is composed of traditional Korean dancheong patterns. The life of foolish, jealous, and worried people is expressed in comparison to the Tetris game, which disappears when a line is filled.

 

*Cho Jae-geon’s  ‘Kyujanggakdo’ is the painting of royal library of the Joseon Dynasty and an institution for academic and policy research. It is depicting the annexed building and the surrounding landscape around the Kyujanggak in the center of the screen.

 

*Kim Min-ah's 'Gaeungdo' means loyalty in the form of a tamed hawk. Also, the sharp beak and claws have the meaning of catching evil spirits and preventing three disasters (water disaster, fire, wind disaster).
