International Symposium: New Insights into the Landscapes of Goguryeo Capital City and Defensive Systems

- Friday, Sep. 23rd,10:00 a.m. at the Assembly Hall (B1) of Cultural Heritage Analysis Information Center of NRICH (Online Stream on YouTube) -

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Kim Yeonsoo, Director General; hereafter NRICH) of the Cultural Heritage Administration will host an international symposium on the topic of “New Insights into the Landscapes of Goguryeo Capital City and Defensive Systems at the Assembly Hall (B1) of the Cultural Heritage Analysis Information Center (CHAIC) of NRICH, on Friday, September 23rd at 10:00 am. This event is mainly focused on the landscapes and defensive systems of Goguryeo Capital Cities in Huan Ren and Ji’an and exploring future research tasks and directions.

 

The event will consist of a keynote talk and 5 presentations followed by a discussion session. The seminar will begin with the morning session with the keynote presentation on the topic of “Problems of Early to Middle Goguryeo Capital Cities” (Park Soonbal, Chungnam National University) followed by 2 thematic presentations regarding the “Research about the Eastern Regions of China, conducting the Project and Its Outcomes” (Kim Boram, NRICH); and “Examination of Arguments related to Early and Middle Goguryeo Capital Cities” (Lee Youngsu, NRICH).

During the afternoon, speakers will cover topics on “Arrangements and Landscapes of Goguryeo Capital Cities in Huan Ren and Ji’an” (Wang Feifeng, Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences); “Ongoing Disputes and Spatial Understanding of the Initial Royal Goguryeo Capital, Jolbon” (Ki Kyoungryang, Catholic University of Korea); and “A Few Open Questions involving Ji’an, the Capital City of the Middle Goguryeo” (Tanaka Toshiaki, University of Shiga Prefecture).

 

After the presentations, a general discussion session chaired by Choi Jongtaik will take place, where the speakers and debaters can exchange various opinions.
