What are protected areas?

  • Protected areas refer to a kind of buffer zone designated to protect State-designated cultural properties from physical, environmental and scenic damage.
  • The designation process of protected areas is the same as that of State-designated cultural properties.
  • The protected areas for State-designated cultural properties can be extended if it is considered necessary. If any special reasons exist, the protected areas can be downscaled in like manner as the designation and cancellation of such cultural heritage. The process of extension or reduction of protected areas is the same as the designation process of the areas.
