Is there a natural monument animal that I can keep at home?

  • sapsal dogUnder the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, one cannot capture an animal designated as a natural monument or raise it at home without permission from the Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration.
  • However, livestock animals designated as a natural monument, such as Jindo Dog of Jindo (Natural Monument No.53), Sapsal Dog of Gyeongsan (Natural Monument No.368), Silky Fowl of Hwaak-ri, Yeonsan (Natural Monument No.265), and Jeju Horse of Jeju (Natural Monument No.347), are raised and managed in their home regions for their breeding and restoration, and it is possible for one who lives outside these regions to own and keep such animals at home through the related agencies or organizations.
