What is the cultural property expounder?
What is the cultural property expounder?
  • Cultural property expounders are volunteers who explain relics in the historic site of their community to tourists from home and abroad in order to help them have a better appreciation. They are equipped with a basic background of Korean culture and history as well as in-depth knowledge of the historic site.
  • The cultural property expounder system was jointly planned and implemented by the CHA and local governments. Under the system, training is offered by each governing Si/Do to people equipped with a basic background of Korean history and culture such as retired teachers, local historians, people having proficiency in foreign languages, and housekeepers who majored in related disciplines. Once completing the required training, the expounders are engaged in explanation activities and given financial assistance for transportation and meals by the local government.
  • For more details of the selection of cultural property expounders, please contact the Tourism Policy Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Tel: +82-2-3074-9710).
