Where can I get education on cultural properties?

  • The Cultural Heritage Association offers a wide range of education for the employees of cultural heritage repair businesses engaged in preserving cultural properties, civil servants at the Korean and local governments, and the general public. 
  • With its focus on the theories and practices of the preservation and utilization of cultural properties, specialized education on the areas of cultural properties are offered by the CHA, the Korean National University of Cultural Heritage, the Training Center for Traditional Culture, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation. 
  • Some education programs directly administered by the CHA (including the Korean National University of Cultural Heritage, the Training Center for Traditional Culture, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage) are as follows: 

    1) “Training on the Repairs of Cultural Properties” offered to the employees of cultural property repair business with the aim of helping them acquire expertise and improve work skills 

    2) “Cultural Property Manager Course” and “Technical Course for Repair of Cultural Properties” offered to civil servants taking charge of state- or local government-designated cultural properties with the aim of improving their professionalism and work skills 

    3) “Preliminary Course for Conservation Science” and “Advanced Practice Course for Conservation Science” geared to improve knowledge and work skills for the conservation of relics 

    4) “Education on the Management of Natural Cultural Properties” offered to civil servants at the Korean and local governments taking charge of natural cultural properties 

    5) “Youth Cultural School of Royal Palaces” established to raise young people’s awareness of the history and culture of Korea and instill pride and love of Korean traditional culture into them 

    6) The Korean National University of Cultural Heritage, a four-year national university, offers Cultural Property Management and five other major programs. 
  • In addition, the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation has conducted numerous programs ranging from specialized to general education on Korean traditional culture including cultural property repair courses, the School for Traditional Arts offering programs for minyo (folk songs), pansori (Korean-style opera with solo performer), danso (five-holed flute) and etc., the Korean Handicrafts School, and the “Job Training on Cultural Heritage for Teachers” offered to primary and secondary teachers.
